Biography

Kaloyan Staykov is the Chief Economist at the Energy Management Institute. Prior to that he’s worked as a senior economist at the Institute for Market Economics in the fields of public finance, energy, business environment, healthcare.

He is part of a group of experts and economists who have been advocating for years to increase competition in the energy sector until it is fully liberalized. He is the author of several publications and analyses defending this position, including: “Integration of electricity producers with long-term contracts on the market” and “Regulatory policy in the electricity sector in 2013 – contrary to regulations and common sense.” He is part of the author’s team that prepared the book “Anatomy of the Crisis” published in 2015, which examines the development of public finances during and after the economic crisis. In 2017 he was part of the authors team that prepared the book “Flat Tax in Bulgaria: Background, Introduction and Results”, which examines the policy in the field of corporate taxation.

He is a member and deputy chairman of the Bulgarian Macroeconomic Association. PhD student at the Faculty of Economics, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski ”. He holds a master’s degree in Economics and Management in Energy, Infrastructure and Utilities and a bachelor’s degree in International Economics and Business with a specialization in Finance from the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
